The best way to check for doneness is to use an instant-read thermometer. Chicken is cooked when the temperature has reached 165°F (74°C).
Note: Be sure to insert the probe into the thickest part of the wing, avoiding the bone. If you don’t have a thermometer, pierce a wing and check to see if the juices run clear.
The meat should not be red or pink. It should also be firm to the touch and the skin should be darker in color and crispy.
How To Make Chicken Wings Crispy
Baking powder is the secret to super crispy chicken wings. In a large bowl, combine the baking powder, salt, pepper, paprika and garlic powder. Before seasoning the wings, pat them dry with paper towels. Once dry, toss them in the seasoning mix, ensuring each piece is fully coated. Another way to make chicken wings crispy is by baking them on a wire rack. This allows for better air circulation and prevents moisture from getting trapped under the pieces.
Seasoning Ideas
Feel free to experiment with additional seasonings, herbs and spices to jazz up your chicken wings. Lemon pepper, onion powder and chili powder are all excellent options. Dried herbs like thyme, oregano and basil are also great for adding flavor.
